Seattle Part 1 - Expectations

This coming Sunday, I will be flying out to Seattle, WA.  I have never been to the northwest before, so I am excited to see what they have going on. My trip will be about one and a half weeks long, most of it will be spent exploring the city.  I also have plans to go hiking in the mountains near the city, exploring the natural beauty.

This post is about what I'm expecting from my journey.  Here are some of my expectations, they may be wrong, but I can't wait to find out.

The People
Hipster.  That is the first word I think of if I am asked to describe the people there.  That is at least what I think they will be like?  Maybe this is an extreme stereotype and is extremely off, but I guess we will find out.

Public Transportation
Easier and more practical than the public transportation here?  It could be bigger and easier to navigate as well.  There appears to be a larger presence of ride-share opportunities, creating an easier way to move around.

Coffee
I imagine the birthplace of Starbucks has to have good coffee, right?  And of course, I am especially interested in visiting the first Starbucks.  Possibly a plethora of little coffee shops scattered all around, that would be awesome.  The coffee game seems to be competitive over there, so maybe they will have more diverse/inventive ideas.

Weather
Rainy? Dreary? Cloudy? Humid? These are the words that come to mind.  This could also be a complete stereotype, portrayed just in movies.  At least it will be warmer than around here.  50 degree temperatures are expected during my trip, which is a nice change from the 20 degree temperature here.

Nature
I am hoping the people in/around Seattle will be a little more aware to the role nature has in their lives.  That area seems to be home to a number of dense forests, I am excited to get out there and see for myself.  There is also a great number of physical outdoor activities in Seattle.  I was researching some of them on Airbnb just to see what to expect.

Fashion
Vintage clothing, I already see a crowd of sweaters walking towards me.  I am thinking there might also be a slew of doc martens and flannels from the past grunge scene in some areas. From looking at pictures of street style in Seattle, I think the fashion will also be sporadic and bright depending on the weather.

This is one of my first big trips, I am really excited to see what it is like in Seattle and enjoy immersing  myself in the atmosphere.

Stay tuned for Part two.
